As part of my internship with Indiana University Southeast's Graphic Design program, I was tasked with redesigning Beyond, the graphic design department's annual prospectus. The existing publication had remained largely unchanged for years, relying heavily on dense text and a handbook-style format. as lead designer, My goal was to transform it into a visually engaging recruitment piece that would better reflect the creativity, culture, and opportunities within the program while capturing the attention of prospective students and their families.

This project extended far beyond editorial design. In addition to designing the publication from a new concept to completion, I collaborated with students to coordinate and direct photography, conducted alumni interviews, organized content and copyright, and worked directly with printers to prepare the final piece for production. The experience challenged me to balance design, storytelling, project management, and collaboration while maintaining a cohesive visual vision throughout the publication.

The visual direction of Beyond was intentionally inspired by themes of rebellion, experimentation, and creative disruption. As a publication representing emerging designers, I wanted the design to challenge traditional academic aesthetics and reflect the mindset of a generation entering an industry often described as oversaturated or "dying." Through expressive typography, layered compositions, and a grittier visual language, the publication embraces the idea that design continues to evolve, not disappear. The result is a bold, student-centered publication that celebrates creativity, individuality, and the power of breaking convention.
Beyond was one of the most ambitious and rewarding projects of my academic career. Leading the redesign taught me how to manage a large-scale publication from strategy through print production while working with multiple people and deadlines.

Most importantly, it reinforced my belief that thoughtful design can transform information into an experience, one that informs, inspires, and creates meaningful connections with its audience. This project remains a milestone in my growth as a designer and strengthened my abilities in editorial design, creative direction, and creating work that serves a larger purpose.
